BF3R Insights | Open Science in animal experimentation – the Open Science Toolbox

Translational biomedical research relies on animal testing and provides the fundamental practical evidence for clinical trials. As a result, translational researchers are subject to an increased duty of care to derive the maximum benefit from each experiment. The implementation of open science practices has the potential to initiate a change in research culture. This could improve the transparency and quality of translational research in general and increase the reach and scientific significance of published research results. However, open science has become a buzzword in the scientific community that often misses its mark in practical implementation.
The Open Science Toolbox provides a comprehensive overview of open science practices that can be applied at all stages of the research process—from study design to data collection and analysis to publication and dissemination. It supports researchers in increasing the transparency and quality of their work. As open science practices are constantly evolving, the toolbox is continuously updated to reflect current developments and best practices.

About the Event Series

Bf3R Insights is an online seminar series organized by the German Center for the Protection of Laboratory Animals (Bf3R) with the aim of familiarizing diverse interest groups with the center's wide range of topics. You can register for individual seminars or for several seminars free of charge. Please use the registration form on the BfR Academy website: bfr-akademie.de

The seminars are recognized for the regular continuing education required to maintain (not obtain) expertise in accordance with Section 3 (2) of the Animal Welfare Laboratory Animal Ordinance (TierSchVersV). Registered participants will receive a certificate of attendance electronically after the respective seminar. It is the responsibility of the participants to ensure that the seminars they attend are relevant to their personal research focus and are therefore suitable for their individual continuing education.
