Engineering human heart tissue for functional diagnosis, drug testing, and therapy

Network of usergroups of the heart project

In the project of Prof. Michael Gotthardt (MDC/Charité) and Dr. Sebastian Diecke (MDC/BIH), clinicians and basic scientists are working together. Their goal is to facilitate the transition from the laboratory to the bedside with improved disease models by virtually replicating essential aspects of the disease picture in the Petri dish. This not only promotes the application of the 3Rs principle, but can also improve clinical care and patient enrollment for clinical trials by making it possible to test in advance whether a therapy is effective.

The research story "Artificial heart tissue for functional diagnostics, drug testing and therapy" can be found here (German only).

A video about the project can be found here.
