Prof. Kurreck, Professor of Applied Biochemistry at the TU and co-spokesperson for the Einstein Center 3R, and his scientific work are honored in the section “They swim against the tide.”
In its tribute, Der Tagesspiegel writes: "Innovations are possible even without animal testing, as Jens Kurreck, Professor of Applied Biochemistry, demonstrates. At the TU Berlin, he works on RNA technologies, personalized therapies, and organ models from 3D bioprinters. Together with his team, he achieved a breakthrough: they produced a liver from human cells for the first time – without any materials of animal origin. In addition to the ethical aspects, this could also improve the transferability of study results to humans."
The Tagesspiegel has published an accompanying interview with Jens Kurreck on YouTube, in which he presents his research.
