We are very pleased that one of our young researchers has now taken up a position as an assistant professor in the Biomedical Engineering program at the City University of Hong Kong (in Dongguan). Dongwei Wu worked as a doctoral student and postdoc in Prof. Jens Kurreck’s research group at TU Berlin and was actively involved in the EC3R Junior Scientists network.

During his time at TU Berlin, his work in the field of bioprinting included, among other things,

• using a perfused metastasis model (Bioprinting of Perfusable Vascularized Organ Models for Drug Development via Sacrificial-Free Direct Ink Writing)
• cultured meat that resembles real pork (Embedded bioprinting enables precise fabrication of cultured meat with authentic structural properties)
• a mixing system for hydrogels that results in more homogeneous distributions and thus improved reproducibility of the results (Man vs. machine: Automated bioink mixing device improves reliability and reproducibility of bioprinting results compared to human operators)
• using a liver model for DILI, together with Ahmed Ali (Liver-on-Micropillar: a humanized, animal-free platform for high-throughput assessment of drug-induced liver injury)
