Ahmed Ali, member of the EC3R Juniors, Mathias Ziersch and Prof. Dr. Jens Kurreck, EC3R Co-Spokesperson, have received the NAM Teaching Award for teaching alternative methods (NAM Teaching Award) from the State Animal Welfare Officer of Berlin, Dr. Kathrin Herrmann, on Dec. 16, 2022.

They will teach principles of cultivation of human cells without fetal calf serum in a workshop for young scientists from Berlin and a practical course for students of biotechnology at the Technical University of Berlin. They will also demonstrate the replacement of other animal components in cell culture, such as bovine trypsin. The main focus will be on the production of organ models by 3D bio-printing. Here, research results will be directly incorporated into teaching activities.

The award supports the laboratory practicals with 5,000 €.
