Außerlechner (Professor for Tissue Engineering at Medical University Innsbruck, Winner of the Austrian Prize for the support of alternative methods to animal testing 2022 (Staatspreis zur Förderung von Ersatzmethoden zum Tierversuch 2022)).

He established the 3D bioprinting laboratory at the Medizinische Universität Innsbruck. Among his major contributions is a paper on a bioprinted, vascularized 3D neuroblastoma model, which appeared in 2022.
