Public Event: Art as a Source of Strength – Creativity in Coping with Illness

How can art help people cope with a serious illness? How does it open up avenues to one’s own feelings and needs – and what role can it play in the healing process?
To mark the exhibition “TRUST – Trust Through Participation,” we invite you to an evening exploring art and medicine at the “Der Simulierte Mensch” research building as part of Berlin Science Week.

In a brief keynote address, physician and psychoanalyst Dr. med. Adak Pirmorady Sehouli explores the importance of art and creativity in coping with illness. Drawing on psychoanalytic approaches and scientific findings, she demonstrates how artistic expression can help individuals connect with themselves and cope with changes brought on by illness.
Afterward, she will speak with artists from the Kraftkreis Berlin who have expressed themselves artistically during their cancer journeys and will also present some of their works on site. The artists will share their experiences and discuss the space that art opens up in their lives – for reflection, acceptance, and renewed strength.

The audience is warmly invited to ask questions, share their own thoughts, and join the discussion.
Afterward, there will be an opportunity to continue the conversation and view the exhibition “TRUST – Trust Through Participation”.
