Enhancing the maturation of complex human neuromuscular organoids for personalized medicine approaches

Network of user groups of the neuromuscular model

Growing two or more different tissues in a single functional organoid is a special challenge that Gouti-Lab has mastered with the generation of neuromuscular organoids. Such organoids enable the study of neuromuscular diseases - where more than one tissue is involved - such as myasthenia gravis. The current project of Dr. Mina Gouti (MDC), Prof. Dr. Carmen Birchmeier (MDC) and Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Rajewsky (MDC/BIMSB) is primarily aimed at improving and accelerating the maturation of the organoid.

The video "Neuromuscular Connection" can be found here.

More information about Mina Gouti and her research can be found on the Gouti Lab website and in a portrait ("The Tissue Engineer," Feb. 22, 2022) of her by MDC.

In 2026, Dr. Mina Gouti was appointed W3 Professor of Complex Organoid Models in Personalized Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
